Instagram is preparing to copy the most popular Snapchat feature. Instagram has developed a prototype of the text message feature that clears the conversation thread every time you talk and is currently testing it.
The temporary messaging feature is also very popular on other social media sites. Twitter is also testing temporary posts and announced that it has been testing a feature earlier this month that will allow its users to post text, photos and videos that disappear within 24 hours. This feature can help encourage people to feel more comfortable while sharing their thoughts online.
After Snapchat rejected Facebook’s $ 3 billion purchase offer, Facebook tried to challenge Snapchat in this market by developing its own temporary messaging app called Slingshot in 2014. Slingshot allowed people to share photos and videos with each other in a matter of seconds. However, Facebook removed the application a year later because the application did not receive enough attention.
Now, Instagram is reported to be working on this feature that makes Snapchat popular: self-deleting messages. The unpublished feature was first spotted by engineer Jane Manchun Wong, tagged with a monkey emoji that closed his mouth in Instagram’s app .
The Instagram side confirmed Wong’s discovery.
Instagram, “We are always developing new features to improve your messaging experience.” said. “This feature is still under development and has not yet been externally tested.” said.
Users enter this mode via Instagram direct messages. When they enter by swiping the opened part, they are taken to the dark mode window that opens as a blank message page. When users close this window, messages from themselves or chatting disappear. This feature has similar features as Snapchat, which erases the chat after both parties see the message.
For now, no date has been set for when this feature will be officially available. Some features may never leave the prototype stage. However, this feature seems to be implemented a few months later.
