With the Zen 2 architecture, AMD used it to increase the number of cores, improving production processes by up to 7nm. It already scaled up to 16 cores Ryzen processors. The new generation of Threadripper series will take over from this point.
According to the leaked information, the new Threadripper series will start with the Ryzen Threadripper 3960X model name. So the Ryzen 3 series will resume. In this model, there will be 24 cores and 48 threads.
AMD’s decision to start the series with 24 cores is expected to be especially aimed at the newly introduced Core-X processors under $ 1000, which can scale up to 18 cores. Previous-generation Threadripper processors won over Core-X competitors in certain scenarios that didn’t run out of memory. So we’re going to see a cutthroat competition under $ 1000.
Third-generation Threadripper processors offer the same access to each core in the 4-channel memory interface, which means that it won’t get too much of a memory bottleneck. In this way, it will be a bit more advantageous against its competitors.
New processors with the TRX40 chipset are not compatible with X399 motherboards. Previous generation Threadripper processors will not be compatible with the TRX40 chipset. The TRX40 chipset will include PCIe 4, more x16 slots, M.2 slots and x1 slots. The processor and chipset are expected to be introduced in November.
