Similar to Qualcomm, MediaTek's main priority is CPUs with 5G support. Qualcomm has already introduced Snapdragon 855 and 5G support with phones, but MediaTek has not yet completed its preparations for 5G.
When the Helio M70 5G modem was introduced in May, it was not yet used on a processor. A processor from the Taiwanese manufacturer, produced by the 7 nm FinFet fabrication process and powered by the flagships of brands such as Oppo / Vivo
In addition, MediaTek will release a second 7 nm processor . Unlike flagships, this processor will appeal to mid-range devices and will be a more affordable solution .
According to the news shared by MyDrivers, the architecture will be the same as MT6885. This means that the Helio M70 modem will be used. However, the chipset size will be smaller and as mentioned earlier the cost will be reduced.
The mass production process is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2020 and the processors will be available in the third quarter. In this context, towards the end of 2020, we will see mid-range phones with 5G support.
Taiwanese processor manufacturer MediaTek aims to produce 100 million units in 2020. Half of these are the above-mentioned MT6885 and MT6873.
